A musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical? What could be sweeter... er... better? [title of show] follows Jeff and Hunter and their friends Susan and Heidi as they navigate the road to Broadway with their original musical about writing a musical. This hilarious “meta-musical” has become a household name with theatre people/nerds/dorks since its 2006 Off-Broadway premiere and now transfers to the Interwebs as the launch-project of artFACTORY’s brand new digital platform, AFonline!

Fully produced, staged, and digitally captured at artFACTORY, viewers from across the globe will get a front-row-seat to a brand new digital musical theatre experience! Following the guidelines of medical officials and adhering to safety measures, our QuaranTeam is creating an exciting way to bring Houston-produced musical theatre right into your living room!

“Navigating the global pandemic has been especially pressing for live art creators.” Says Founding Artistic Director Colton Berry. “The industry has taken great leaps to fill the gap created by the lack of in-person performances and AFonline is our answer to bringing the artFACTORY experience to our community and beyond.” He continues, “[title of show] presents a great opportunity to emphasize ‘theatricality’ on a digital platform. This will not be a Zoom reading in front of webcams, but rather a fully realized theatrical production. [title of show] will be filmed in such a way that the theatrical devices used to typically present this piece on stage are highlighted rather than adapted to fit a virtual medium. I can binge my favorite TV/film subscriptions on the regular, but I miss seeing the stagecraft and the suspensions of disbelief. I am elated to launch AFonline and to begin with one of my favorite works of musical theatre, [title of show].”

AFonline’s [title of show] is available to local and international viewers September 16 through 20, 2020, on your phone, computer, tablet, and/or smart TV. [title of show] stars Luke Hamilton and Colton Berry as Jeff and Hunter, respectively, with artFACTORY favorites Heather Hall as Susan and Anna Drake as Heidi.

[title of show] features music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and book by Hunter Bell. [title of show] was originally produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller, Roy Miller, Laura Camien, Kris Stewart, Vineyard Theatre and LAMS Productions at the Lyceum Theatre, where it opened on July 17, 2008. [title of show] was originally produced by the Vineyard Theatre, New York City, February 2006. [title of show] was originally presented by Bridge Club Productions at the 2004 New York Musical Theatre Festival.
